In Verizon's Super Bowl LV commercial, legendary actor Samuel L. Jackson appears as a video game character, taking a stand against blaming lag for poor performance in video games.

"He who is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else," Jackson says while addressing a legion of other video game characters, singling one out for "blaming losses on a laggy network." When the player tries to deny it, Jackson replies, "You really gonna lie to Samuel L. Jackson while he's holding the Sparkle Stick?"

Jackson then plugs Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband, promising "ultra-low lag and console-level gaming on the go." He even calls out a video game version of Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, saying he "[doesn't] want to hear any more excuses out of [him]." An annoyed JuJu then puts on his helmet, storms off and says "bring my fish around."

The commercial ends with JuJu riding upon a giant, shark-like fish, which eats Jackson just as he completes his speech. The moment serves as a fairly obvious homage to the 1999 film Deep Blue Sea, in which Jackson's character -- Russell Franklin -- meets an abrupt end after being attacked by a shark from behind.
