“Powerless,” NBC’s workplace comedy set in the DC Universe, has found its star.

Vanessa Hudgens has joined the project as Emily Locke, who The Hollywood Reporter describes as “an insurance claims adjuster who loves her job because she gets to help people… [and] likes to fly under the radar and just get her work done.” Nevertheless, Locke “finds herself increasingly exasperated by the disruptive antics of the various Super Heroes that proliferate in her city.”

NBC’s “Powerless” Is Unmistakably Part of the DC Universe

Though the sitcom has been picked up as a pilot for NBC, very little is known about the insurance agency office-based comedy. Described as being described as similar to “The Office” but set in a world filled with superheroes, the network has kept quiet on whether it would feature known characters, or simply create all-new ones for the show.

“This is a world where superheroes are not only just on green screen out the window of this insurance office, but they’re also running into you on the street and wreaking havoc,” said NBC executive Jennifer Salke in an earlier interview. “The idea isn’t that it’s the creme de la creme of the superheroes. It’s a world where there’s a whole population of superheroes with all sorts of all challenges themselves. So you’re seeing quite a range of characters in that realm in addition to our great, kind of grounded human ensemble.”

Ben Queen will write and executive produce the “Powerless” pilot alongside Michael Patrick Jann, who is also signed to direct. Christina Kirk will co-star.
