Universal Pictures apparently isn’t wasting any time with its newly announced plans to adapt Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels: TheWrap reports that The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is in early talks to write and helm the first film. Although co-producer Imagine Entertainment contends the report is “completely untrue,” TheWrap is standing by it.
Universal’s new deal with Rice grants the studio film rights to all of the Vampire Chronicles books, dating back to 1976’s Interview With a Vampire. Imagine’s Brian Grazer is on board to produce along with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
Boone kicked off his filmmaking career with the indie Stuck in Love before moving on to The Fault in Our Stars, which has grossed about $272 million worldwide off of a $12 million budget. His next project is an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, which will be followed by the vampire film, if everything can be worked out.
