Universal Paves Way For Sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman

Snow White and the Huntsman premiered just a week ago, but Universal Pictures is already gearing up for a sequel to the action-fantasy.

Deadline reports the studio has already hired Spider-Man writer David Koepp to begin work on the script, and is now talking with director Rupert Sanders, who made his feature debut with the original, to return for the follow-up.

A reimagining of the classic fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman stars Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles, and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen. The film has grossed more than $122 million worldwide, but will need to perform solidly for the next few weeks to justify its estimated $170 million budget — let alone a sequel. Deadline notes the first film was rushed because of Relativity Media’s Mirror Mirror, but Universal and Sanders would be able to take their time with the next one.
