It's official: Frank Darabont is helming The Huntsman.

The man who brought The Walking Dead to television (and was subsequently dropped from the show in a high-profile falling out), and the director of films as diverse as The Shawshank Redemption and The Mist, will take on the Snow White sequel for Universal Pictures, as had been previously rumored.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Darabont's Huntsman will focus on Chris Hemsworth's character without featuring Kristen Stewart's Snow White. However, there is a role for Charlize Theron's evil queen.

In making Darabont official as director, Universal also confirmed a release date for The Huntsman: April 22, 2016. That release date was previously occupied by director Alex Kurtzman's The Mummy, which now shifts to June 24.
