Wow, I feel old. Beavis and Butt-Head, Mike Judge’s hit MTV series that ran from 1993-1997, is coming back. The network has been amping up development on scripted, original series’ in recent months, a refreshing change from the crush of docudramas and reality programming that have been so popular these past few years. MTV confirmed the news — specifically, the cast of MTV’s racy new U.K.-imported series Skins made the announcement — of B&B’s return yesterday at the network’s upfront press gathering in New York.
You younger readers might not have seen the show before, and with the waning popularity of music videos in recent years I wonder if it would even make sense. The series follows a pair of teenage metalheads who like to get into trouble and make jokes about the music videos they see on TV. Each episode is tied together by some kind of narrative thread, but music videos pop up throughout as the two boys poke fun at it in voiceovers. Judge, who created the series and voiced the two characters — as well as their jerk neighbor, who was the model for Judge’s King of the Hill patriarch Hank Hill — will return to oversee these all-new episodes, which MTV says are coming later this year.
Just don’t expect Beavis to shout “Fire! Fire!” again.
