U.S. Attorney General Orders More Episodes Of The Wire

The Wire is the greatest beginning-to-end story in the history of television. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. Anyone who’s seen the show knows it, and that includes U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who also happens to be one of the most powerful people in this country. Well, if power corrupts, then bring on the corruption, because Holder is using a gross abuse of his government power for the forces of good.

The AG met with former Wire stars Wendell Pierce, Sonja Sohn and Jim True-Frost earlier this week so they could all show their support for protecting children from drug abuse and exploitation, Reuters reports. During the sitdown, Holder issued an order that may well be overstepping the boundaries of his authority:

“I want to speak directly to [creators] Mr. [Edward] Burns and Mr. [David] Simon: Do another season of The Wire. That’s actually at a minimum. … If you don’t do a season, do a movie. We’ve done HBO movies, this is a series that deserves a movie. I want another season or I want a movie. I have a lot of power, Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon.”

You can’t really spell it out any more clearly than that. If nothing else, this kind of power play will make great fodder for a future Simon/Burns collaboration.
