If you're tired of the melodrama surrounding fugitive Nicholas Brody and distressed CIA agent Carrie Mathison yet pine for the days when Homeland thrilled and chilled you to the bone, then make sure Tyrant is on your radar.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX has given a series order to the new project from Homeland duo Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff. The series focuses on Bassam "Barry" Al Fayeed, the son of a dictator of a war-torn nation, as he returns to his homeland after a 20-year exile to attend his nephew's wedding. He returns with his American wife and children, resulting in a culture clash that puts Barry's family in jeopardy. Adam Rayner stars as Barry, with other actors on the series including Jennifer Finnigan, Justin Kirk and Alice Krige.

"With Tyrant, Howard Gordon, Gideon Raff and Craig Wright have produced a beautiful television pilot that will be a groundbreaking television series," FX President John Landgraf said in a statement. "Tyrant introduces characters and a world that have never been explored in a dramatic television series format. There is a reason a bidding war broke out over this project: It grabs you as all great epics do and simply refuses to let go!"

The first episode of Tyrant, directed by Harry Potter veteran David Yates, premieres on FX in summer 2014.
