After a long quiet period, there's new news on the in-development adaptation of early Brian Michael Bendis work "Fire": Deadline reports Tuesday that Jesse Wigutow, who's writing the "Tron: Legacy" sequel for Disney, has finalized a deal with Universal Pictures to script the film.

A "Fire" movie has been in the works since at least January 2010, when it was reported that Zac Efron was on board to star. Efron is still attached to the project, as star and executive producer. Bendis was originally set to write the screen adaptation.

Wigutow wrote 2003 dramedy "It Runs in the Family," and was formerly attached to another comic book adaptation, Relativity Media's reboot of "The Crow."

"Fire" was first released by the now-defunct Caliber Comics in 1993, years before Bendis (who both wrote and illustrated the book) was the mainstream comic book superstar he is today. The story, about a college student recruited into the CIA's "Project Fire," was later collected by Image Comics.
