After news broke late Friday that Disney has canceled plans for a sequel to "Tron: Legacy," one fan took to the Grid to try to rescue the film, by launching a petition.

Before you laugh, "Revive Tron 3" at Change.org has already attracted more than 12,000 supporters, within striking distance of its goal of 15,000. "It's a shame that Disney has elected not to move forward with a third Tron film as the universe is ripe to be explored," writes petition organizer Lucas Lowman. "Sign this petition so that we may show Disney that The Grid is too great to never be shown again and to prove that Flynn lives."

Disney had been developing the sequel since the release in 2010 of "Tron: Legacy," with director Joseph Kosinski and stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde set to return, although apparently the project never received an official green light. The film received mixed reviews, but grossed more than $400 million worldwide.

It's unlikely a petition will change the studio's mind about "Tron 3," but, hey, if Sam Flynn can find his father after 20 years, anything can happen.
