The first spin-off film of the "Transformers" franchise spotlighting fan-favorite Autobot Bumblebee has just secured a director. Knight is coming off of the Oscar-nominated "Kubo And The Two Strings," a film that was nominated for both Best Animated Feature and Best Visual Effects.

Paramount officially launched a writers' room to spin-off its main "Transformers" franchise -- this film will mark the first film to be developed from that very room, with Christina Hodson being credited as the writer. Michael Bay, who has directed the rest of the Transformers films thus far, will serve as a producer on the project, alongside Lorenzo Di Bonaventure and Steven Spielberg.

The Bumblebee film will mark the first live-action movie for Knight, who also worked on films such as "ParaNorman" and "Coraline" prior to making his directing debut with last year's "Kubo And The Two Strings."
