Training Day Director Antoine Fuqua Eyes Denzel Washington’s Equalizer

Despite a couple of setbacks, Denzel Washington isn’t allowing his pet project, a film adaptation of the 1980s television drama The Equalizer, gather dust.

First, Drive director Nicholas Refn Winding jumped ship, then Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt recently left the project. But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Washington and Sony Pictures may already have found a replacement.

Antoine Fuqua, whose Olympus Has Fallen opened today, is in talks to joint he project, which would reunite him with his Training Day star Washington. The actor won an Academy Award for that role, so you can imagine he’s motivated to make this pairing happen.

Washington will play Robert McCall, who in thel1985-1989 CBS TV series spent his time roaming around offering his very specific skill set as a former intelligence officer to people free of charge as a form of penance for past deeds.
