Movies, video games and comics — oh my! This week’s batch of collectible news and reveals runs the gamut from comic book-inspired movies and video games like “The Avengers” and “Injustice: Gods Among Us” to video game heroes along the lines of Nathan Drake and Sonic the Hedgehog as well as cult favorite films like “The Big Lebowski.” Meanwhile, Kotobukiya presented a new Batgirl statue as NECA showed off their newer, bigger Kaiju figures based on “Pacific Rim.” In other words, there was so much going on this week that we think you’ll find something fun to feast your eyes on in this week’s TOYING AROUND.
NEW 52 ARTFX+ | While the comic book world might not have known what to do when DC Comics announced their New 52 initiative, the collectible side of Geekdom got a shot in the arm with a flood of new designs. Kotobukiya has been working hard to bring as many of the new looks into their line of ARTFX+ statues. The most recently revealed entry in the line is none other than Batgirl, also known as Barbara Gordon. According to Koto’s Facebook page, the piece will drop next June.
THE AVENGERS | After covering all the Avengers and Loki, Hot Toys still isn’t done with figures based on “The Avengers.” Coming soon, the incredibly detailed toy company will offer two Chitauri figures for your army building pleasure. You can choose between a Chitauri Commander or Soldier or just go for broke and get the 2-pack. So, all you’ll need to do to recreate the film’s epic finale is build a model of New York City, score enough of these interdimensional menaces to fill it and go to town with the heroes. Good luck!
INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US | While answering fan questions over on their Facebook page, DC Collectibles announced that they do in fact have a Joker figure in the works based on his appearance in this year’s “Injustice: Gods Among Us” video game. The figure will be available later this year along with a Batman in the 3.75-inch scale.
PACIFIC RIM | Much like the monsters in Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim,” the action figures from NECA get bigger and badder as they go on. These two pieces, which are 50% larger than previous monsters and Jaegers, will hit stores in February.
SONIC GENERATIONS | First 4 Figures announced a new line of super-fast animal statues with The Sonic Diorama Collection. Here’s hoping the line does well enough that we’ll eventually get Lynx-O, Robear Bill and the Snowman of Hook Mountain.
