While film-based collectibles take center stage when it comes to breaking toy news, sometimes the coolest thing to come down the pike is a standout version of a classic comic book hero -- that's the case with Sideshow's Superman statue which took the internet by storm late this week. Meanwhile, "Iron Man 3" had a good showing with two different upcoming offerings as did the Jurassic Park franchise, Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who and plenty of others. All these and more are spotlighted in this week's edition of TOYING AROUND!

SUPERMAN | The world's most recognizable superhero is getting the premium format treatment thanks to Sideshow Collectibles. The statue stands over two feet tall, featuring a fabric costume and cape to give the statue a more realistic look. The Sideshow exclusive version comes with a swap-out head with ready-to-blast heat vision eyes. The Man of Steel statue goes up for pre-order on Thursday, March 28th.

IRON MAN 3 | Last month Diamond Select Toys showed off their upcoming MiniMates based on the Marvel Studios film "Iron Man 3." Well, most of them. Now that we're closer to the May 3 release date two more figures have been revealed! Toys 'R' Us has a version of Tony Stark putting on pieces of his Mark 42 armor paired with a mystery figure, while all outlets feature an Extremis Soldier who comes with Iron Patriot. Look for them in stores this April.

IRON MAN 3 | Of course, that won't be the only Iron Patriot figure around this summer -- Hot Toys has one in the works too. To make their figures look even closer to the metallic powerhouses seen on the big screen, Hot Toys has gone the die-cast route for their "Iron Man 3" 1/6th scale figures. The Hong Kong based company just revealed their brand new Iron Patriot toy to show off Don Cheadle's new alter ego from the film.

DC CLASSIC TV ACTION FIGURES | The Adam West "Batman" series made a big splash at this year's Toy Fair. While we snapped pictures along with everyone else of Mattel's offerings, now you can check out some official images sent out by way of Previews. Now available for viewing are Batman, Riddler and The Penguin figures as well as the first official shots of the Batman and Robin 2-pack -- the only place you can get a Burt Ward Robin figure (for the time being). The figures are released June 26.

STAR WARS | A few weeks back we got a look at just part of Sideshow Collectibles' upcoming Premium Format Figure. Now that the piece is officially open for pre-order you can check out the whole thing! Chewie here stands 23 inches tall and comes with his bandoleer and satchel. If you go with the more limited Sideshow Exclusive version, you get a new arm holding a Blastech DLT-19 Rifle instead of his trusty Bowcaster. The piece ships in August.

DOCTOR WHO | Titan's going tiny with their next Doctor Who offerings. The UK company has a new series of 3-inch vinyl figures in the works based on David Tennant's time as the Tenth Doctor. The figures are blind-boxed, but you can try for the TARDIS, the Doctor in two different suits, Vashta Nerada, an Adipose, a Weeping Angel, a Clockwork Robot, Cyber Leader, Davros, a Bronze Dalek, Dalek Sec and a Sontaran. There will also be four mystery figures out there for fans to discover. (via Previews)

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE | DC's has a fun variant cover for Keith Giffen and Pop Mhan's "Masters of the Universe" #1 for toy fans. The new cover's made up completely of action figures from Mattel's Masters of the Universe Classics line. There's a catch, though, you can only get this particular book if you buy a 12 issue, year-long subscription to the comic which launches in April.

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US | It seems like not a week goes by where we're not told about another character added to the roster of the upcoming "Injustice: Gods Among Us" video game debuting April 16. With the recent news breaking that Raven is in the game, DC Collectibles revealed she is also making an appearance in the 3.75 inch figure line along with fellow 2-pack mate The Flash.

STAR TREK | When it comes to Star Trek, one of the most beloved episodes has to be "Mirror, Mirror" which showed off alternate, mostly evil versions of the show's heroes. To commemorate the episode, Diamond Select Toys teamed up with Entertainment Earth to offer this limited-to-1000-pieces exclusive MiniMate version of the Terran Empire I.S.S. Enterprise, including a Mirror Universe Captain Kirk 'Mate. The piece can be pre-ordered now and ships in May.

SHERLOCK | Can even the big brain of Sherlock Holmes figure out why his severed head was on display next to that of his partner John Watson's? Sure, it's not that tricky -- Big Chief Studios showed off the likenesses of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman at the Birmingham Memorabilia Show! Now we just need to figure out how to get them out of the case and onto our shelves.

JURASSIC PARK | After teasing a few images from their upcoming Jurassic Park toy line like the Dino Showdown 2-packs, Hasbro unveiled the full line up ready to hit stores in April. Here's the breakdown of the other subsets and figures: The Dino Battlers feature 2-packs including Triceratops vs. T-Rex, Spinosaurus vs. Velociraptor, Spinosaurus vs. T-Rex and Velociraptor vs. T-Rex. There's also the T-Rex and Velociraptor Dino Growlers which each have their own attacks and sounds. Finally, the Dino Trackers not only include a dinosaur and human toy but also accessories; you'll have your pick of Ground Patrol vs. T-Rex, Sky Patrol vs. Pteranodon and Marine Patrol vs. Spinosaurus.

BORDERLANDS | NECA had a good deal of success with the first Claptrap figure based on the helpful robot from the "Borderlands" games, as well as the more limited Blu14 version -- now they have more in the works! June sees the release of the Jakobs Brand Claptrap that you encounter in the Jakobs Cove area of the game.

GOTHITROPOLIS | Renowned sculptors The Four Horsemen might be most well known for their work on Mattel's Masters of the Universe Classics line, but they also have a lot of their own products in the works. They're taking to Kickstarter in the near future to get their next Gothitropolis figure out to the fans. The Raven is the base figure, but they also showed off several possible variants that might get made depending on how well the Kickstarter goes. Check out The White Raven, The Cardinal, The Griffin, The Falcon, The Owl, The Rooster, The Vulture, The Phoenix, The Quetzalcoatl and Minotaur the Duck.

OUTER SPACE MEN | Speaking of the Horsemen, they also announced on their site that they now have the latest wave of Infinity Edition Outer Space Men in stock at their store right now. The new wave includes Cyclops, Gemini and Orbitron. All the other waves are also available for purchase.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE | Opening up the mail can be a bummer. Now that most people send personal messages through email, all you tend to get when opening the mailbox is bills and coupon packs for places you've never heard of. Icon Heroes and Action Figure Xpress want to spice the process up a bit by offering this exclusive Masters of the Universe Prince Adam Power Sword Letter Opener. The 7-inch long item is limited to just 600 pieces and is currently shipping from the online retailer.
