Toy Story 3 Writer Tapped for Disney’s Phineas and Ferb Movie

It looks like the summer-vacation adventures of Disney Channel’s animated Phineas and Ferb will get an extension to the big screen on July 26, 2013. And, according to the Los Angeles Times, Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt has been hired to work on a draft for the movie.

Rumor has it the theatrical release will contain a mix of animation and live action, although story details have yet to be revealed. The show’s creators Swampy Marsh and Dan Povenmire worked on their own draft of the script, but Arndt will be lending his creative touch as well, which is a pretty big deal considering he won an Academy Award in 2007 for writing Little Miss Sunshine.

Disney’s animated series follows stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb as they spend their summer vacation coming up with fantastical adventures while their sister Candace constantly tries to alert her parents about the boys’ exploits. Meanwhile, the family pet Perry the Platypus, who’s really a secret agent, works hard to foil the plans of mad scientist goofball Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

The series is well known to children, but also has enough of a wry sense of humor that it appeals to adults. With the combined efforts of Arndt, Marsh and Povenmire, we’re hoping the big-screen version turns out to be just as entertaining.
