Avengers: Infinity War: Tom Vaughan-Lawlor Cast in Villain Role

Actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor has finally revealed he will play a villain in Avengers: Infinity War. Vaughan-Lawlor is best known for his roles in The Infiltrator, Become Jane and Love/Hate.

The actor confirmed he will assume a villainous role in the third Avengers movie in an interview with Dublin Live. In light of recent set photos, many fans have come to believe Vaughan-Lawlor will be playing Ebony Maw when Avengers: Infinity War releases. When asked pointblank if he’s in the movie, Vaughan-Lawlor said:

“I am. But it’s like I’m one of those ones where you go into a sentence to say something about it and hope you have a job at the end of the sentence. You sign so many documents and waivers and people ask you about it and you have to give the generic and boring ‘I can’t say too much about it’, but I am doing it and it’s really amazing and an amazing thing to be part of.”

Fans got their first good look at the first live-action take on the Black Order at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, with impressive statues in the venue and a poster. The Black Order consists of Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian — who is known as Black Dwarf in the comics.

While Vaughan-Lawlor has yet to confirm he is playing Ebony Maw, evidence is mounting. The actor was photographed mere days ago grappling with Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch on set. In the comics, Ebony Maw is a strategist in Thanos’ Black Order. Thanos sends Ebony Maw to Earth to deal with Doctor Strange before the Mad Titan makes his world-ending gamble to attack the planet. Ebony Maw even briefly gains psychic control over Doctor Strange, forcing him to act as a double-agent for the Black Order. The set photo teases an incapacitated Sorcerer Supreme — but is he compromised?
