Venom: Tom Holland Would Jump At Chance to Work With Tom Hardy

With Spider-Man: Homecoming arriving next week, and a number of spinoffs already in development, there’s naturally some confusion about what connections there may be between Sony’s planned cinematic universe and the well-established Marvel Cinematic Universe. One thing is for certain, however: Tom Holland would love to swing into a film alongside Venom star Tom Hardy.

At a weekend press junket for Spider-Man: HomecomingScreen Rant asked the young star whether he hopes to appear in Sony’s Spider-universe.

“That’s something that’s not up to me,” Holland replied. “I am the MCU’s Spider-Man, I exist in a world with the Avengers. If Venom exists in that world, I don’t really know the answer to that question. I don’t think he does. But yeah, any opportunity to work with Tom Hardy, I’d jump to it.”

CinemaBlend asked the actor specifically about the upcoming Venom film, and received a similar response. “The Venom movie takes place in a different universe,” Holland said, “so I have no plans to show up in those movies any time soon. But you know, things change! We’ll have to wait and see.”

Holland’s comments arrive on the heels of a number of contradictions surrounding Venom’s possible connections to Spider-Man: Homecoming and the MCU. In April, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said Sony’s planned Venom and Silver & Black films won’t be connected to the MCU or its version of Spider-Man. However, in a subsequent interview, producer Amy Pascal said Venom and Silver & Black would take place in the same universe as Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was widely interpreted as confirmation that those characters are part of the MCU proper.

Then, to offer additional clarification on the matter, Feige reaffirmed that Spider-Man is the only Sony character that will be brought into the MCU. Those sentiments were then echoed by Pascal, who said “[Feige] makes characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” and that “[those] characters are separate, except for Spidey, who belongs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is why he’s there.”

If nothing else, fans can at least take comfort in the fact that Holland would welcome the opportunity to work with Hardy, should any additional agreements be struck.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man and Michael Keaton as the Vulture, in addition to Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. The film swings into theaters on July 7.
