With summer on the horizon, Marvel Studios has now begun to shifts its focus from the newly released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, its first co-production with Sony Pictures. But while the highly anticipated franchise reboot doesn't arrive in theaters for nearly two months, talk is already turning to its announced 2019 sequel.

While speaking with Brazilian entertainment website CinePOP, star Tom Holland was asked which villains he’d like to see in the sequel. After naming a pair of fan-favorite foes, the actor offered up a somewhat-unexpected possibility: Spider-Girl.

There’s so many good villains, I really like Mysterio, I like Kraven. I really like the "Clone Saga." I think it could be really cool if Peter, or Spider-Man has to fight people with the same powers as him. Spider Woman’s super cool. … I think she’s called Spider-Girl, who is his clone. They kind of like hit it off and they take their masks off and they’re like… [shocked look] What the hell! They’re like the same person, but she’s just a girl. I think that’s really cool.

Of course, Spider-Girl -- aka May Parker, the daughter of Peter and Mary Jane Parker from a future, alternative universe -- isn't traditionally a villain, and her story might be difficult to translate to the big screen. (Update: It's been pointed out that Holland is likely referring to Jessica Drew from Ultimate Spider-Man.) However, fans have long clamored for Kraven to make his live-action debut, and there are certainly ways "The Clone Saga" could be reinterpreted within the framework of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
