One of the stories coming out of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was the stealth cameos made by well-known actors, such as Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig, who appeared as a Jakku junk dealer and stormtrooper, respectively, just to say they were in a "Star Wars" movie.

With rumors swirling that Tom Hardy ("Mad Max: Fury Road") is planning a similar cameo in "Star Wars: Episode VIII," the Oscar-nominated actor danced around the question during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

When asked if there is truth to the rumor that he will play a stormtrooper, Hardy replied, "I don't know if I can even say that. Where did you hear that?" After being told the rumor began on the internet, he joked, "Ah, the internet is a glorious web of deceit and misinformation, isn't it?"

Pressed further, Hardy ended with, "It could be, couldn't it?"

Hardy is set to star in the FX limited series "Taboo" which he is also an executive producer. Directed by Rian Johnson, "Star Wars: Episode VIII" stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. The film opens Dec. 15.
