"New Girl" star Jake Johnson has joined Universal's "The Mummy" remake. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he'll play a member of the military "in a role written specifically for him."

Johnson will star alongside Tom Cruise, the protagonist; Sofia Boutella, the titular monster; and Annabelle Wallis, an archaeologist.

Developed by Chris Morgan and Alex Kurtzman — who is also directing the pic — Universal’s “Mummy” reboot is set to be the first foray into a shared movie universe, featuring the studio’s monster movie icons. Kurtzman is also producing, alongside Morgan and Sean Daniel.

From a script by “Prometheus” scribe Jon Spaihts, the present day “Mummy” movie will awaken in theatres on June 9, 2017.
