From 3,000 locations, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" pulled in $2 million from Thursday night showings -- well behind the $4.5 million the original film nabbed in its 2014 preview night, but modest when compared to other sequels released this year.

According to Deadline, the "TMNT" sequel is tracking similar to Sony's "The Angry Birds Movie," which ended up coming first place its opening weekend with $38.2 million. "Out of the Shadows" is projected to make between $30-35 million.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" made the most Thursday night, earning $3.58 million for a total first-week gross of $94.2 million. Earlier projections saw the movie falling behind "Out of the Shadows" in its second weekend with a 55-60% decline.
