Comic revivals of “G.I. Joe” and “Transformers” have enjoyed great success since their launch and another classic ’80s animated super-team hopes to capitalize on that success. DC/WildStorm announced Friday that the popular 1980s animated series “Thundercats” will be making their way to comics this August.
“Fan interest in having new ‘Thundercats’ comics is tremendous – and
growing,” said WildStorm’s Editorial Director Jim Lee in a release. “And when we
combine a property that’s ready to explode with two of the hottest artists
in comics, both of whom are combining a reverence for the classic
animation with their own modern flair, well, let’s just say expectations
The book will debut with “Thundercats #0,” a 32 page one-shot featuring a story written by J. Scott Campbell and Ford Lytle Gilmore with art by Campbell. Campbell is most well known for his work on “Danger Girl.” Other features in this special include character bios and behind-the-scenes production designs. Two weeks later the 5-issue miniseries makes its debut written by Gilmore with art and covers by Ed McGuinness (“Superman”) and Jason Martin (“Mr. Majestic”) with a first-issue variant cover by Arthur Adams. DC says “he adventure begins where the cartoon left off in 1985, with New Thundera restored, and Thundercats’ King Lion-O reassembling his old friends, the refugees of Thundera. “Thundercats #0” arrives in comics stores on August 7th with a $2.50 cover price. “Thundercats #1” hits comic shops on August 21st with a $2.95 cover price.
