When Chris Hemsworth's thunder god didn't enter the fray in Captain America: Civil War, his conspicuous absence was explained away in a comical short from Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi: The Asgardian hero was enjoying some down time in Australia, where he shared a flat with a guy named Darryl Jacobson.

The duo's antics were well-received, prompting a sequel that further explored their misadventures. However, while their humorous dichotomy may appear again in the future, fans shouldn't expect to see Darryl in Thor: Ragnarok.

During a panel over the weekend at Supanova Expo in Australia, Hemsworth broke the news of Darryl's absence from the Marvel Studios sequel. However, he did hold out the possibility for a return in Avengers: Infinity War.

Chris confirms that Daryl will NOT appear in Ragnarok. Possibly in Infinity War though... #ChrisHemsworth #Supanova— Tyler James (@Tyler_Cull3n) June 18, 2017

While the antics of Darryl and Thor would certainly lend themselves well to tone hinted at in Thor: Ragnarok's teaser trailer, it's difficult to imagine such a sequence meshing with the film's more bombastic elements, such as the battle with Mark Ruffalo's Hulk on Sakaar, or the destruction of Asgard and the shattering of Mjolnir at the hands of Cate Blancett's Hela. What sort of role Darryl could play in Infinity War, which promises to be an even grimmer affair, is anyone's guess.
