When Thor returns in "Thor: Ragnarok," the God of Thunder will discover a new threat within Asgard's walls: Cate Blanchett's Hela, Goddess of Death. Blanchett has been attached to the project since December 2015, but not much was known about her mysterious role -- until now. Entertainment Weekly released some new information about the character, including the fact that Hela will be "accidentally unleashed from her prison" in the upcoming film.

“She’s been locked away for millennia getting more and more cross, and then, with a mistake, she gets unleashed and she ain’t getting back in that box,” Blanchett shared. As a matter of fact, she's so against returning to her prison that she banishes Thor to the planet Sakaar in retaliation.

“[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers,” Thor himself Chris Hemsworth explained. “No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”

While Thor goes and battles Hulk on Sakaar, Blanchett's Hela will do some fighting of her own. According to the report, Blanchett worked with stuntwoman Zoë Bell, best known for her work in "Grindhouse," "Kill Bill" and "Inglourious Basterds," among others. With Bell, Blanchett learned the Brazilian martial art capoeira as she prepared for the role.

Additionally, the report describes Hela as "Goddess of Death." Of course, this is nothing new for the character; in the comics, she has always been the Queen of Hel, Asgard's underworld. However, it will be interesting to see how Hela -- herself a mystical being -- fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's science-minded world, even in light of "Doctor Strange."

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban and Mark Ruffalo, “Thor: Ragnarok” is set to be released on November 3, 2017.
