According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Taika Waititi's sequel is on track to gross between $90 million and $100 million domestically in its opening weekend, surpassing the debuts of both 2011's Thor ($65.7 million) and 2013's Thor: The Dark World ($85.7 million).

The marketing blitz for Ragnarok kicked off in April with the release of the first teaser, which set an all-time record for the most-watched trailer in Disney and Marvel Studios history (more than 136 million views in its first 24 hours). Marvel has kept the film in fans' minds with a constant string of teasers and promotional spots, with a recent one even showing a change to a pivotal scene teased in earlier footage.
