Fanboyweb (via Collider) believes they have the skinny on Stan Lee’s cameo. They write, “Thor’s hammer ( Mjolnir ) is found lying inside a crater in the middle of the road by the U.S. Army. The army tries to move it but can’t because it’s too heavy. They decide to bring in a truck for assistance. The soldiers tie Thor’s hammer to the back of the truck with chains. The truck driver accelerates to pull Mjolnir. The back half of the truck falls apart as the front keeps moving. Finally, the camera cuts to the driver who happens to be comic legend Stan Lee.”
Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011
Comic Book Movie‘s Pietro Filliponi concludes his unofficial set visit with some pretty nice shots of the Ferris YF-23 experimental aircraft Hal Jordan’s father will fly in the film:
Meanwhile, Comicus.it has a brief interview with actor Nick Jones. “Mr. Campbell really expects the best out of his cast and crew. Ryan is a great guy and I believe he has a chip on his shoulder to prove he was the right choice for the role of Hal Jordan. From what I’ve seen, this could be the part of his career. He brings the character to life! I’m glad I was apart of this film. Its going to be BIG!” says the actor.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011
Mike Mignola talked with MTV News about the third film in the series, which awaits director Guillermo Del Toro while he’s off in Middle-Earth. Mignola says the series is planned as a trilogy and the third film would wrap things up. “The only thing I would be very careful about is that I don’t want to tell him how I’m ending the series, because I don’t want him to do it before I get to it,” says Mignola. The third film may also featuring the screen debut of Lobster Johnson.

IRON MAN 2
Jon Favreau talked with The Los Angeles Times about writer/actor Justin Theroux as part of their on-going countdown to the release of the film. “He was having back issues and it was clearly a very stressful period just because of the workload on constantly adjusting and chasing the script as we would have script meetings and improvise and change the content and conceits on the fly, which has become the consistent characteristic between both films,” Favreau explained. Both “Iron Man” films were made with a loose script influenced by the energy of the actors. Theroux would have to update the script on the fly based on those interactions. “That discovery as you go, as you shoot; there are so many things you can’t change because of the visual effects, but anything you can change is up for grabs as you gain clarity.”
Starring Robert Downey Jr., release date: May 7th, 2010
I attended a press conference for the film last week, here’s my write-up at CBR. It was a pretty funny press conference as the group — which included Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, Oscar Jaenada, the director Sylvain White, and writer James Vanderbilt — couldn’t help but crack each other up early on a Sunday morning.
Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, release date: April 23rd, 2010
COWBOYS & ALIENS
Variety reports actor Noah Ringer, star of M. Knight Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender,” has joined the cast of the film. Also, I’m aware “The Last Airbender” isn’t really M. Knight Shyamalan’s, but I added for effect. Remember when Shyamalan had the juice to get his name over the title?
Starring Daniel Craig, release date: July 29th, 2011
MTV News spoke with producer Michael Uslan about the various rumors going into the new version of the film. “It’s in the process of being developed, and as you know, the first Batman movie took 10 years to be developed,” said Uslan. He did not clarify any of the other points, including the possibility of David Slade coming on to direct or Sam Raimi taking the center seat for himself. “Don’t necessarily believe everything you read on the Internet,” he declared. Which probably means all rumors are true.
Release date: TBA
As Spinoff Online reported on Friday, Peter Jackson told Moviefone the scripts are done, but the films are still without an official green light. “We’ve just delivered the script. Literally last week, we delivered the second of the two screenplays — the first draft. So the studio’s got both scripts now, which is a milestone; and if anything was holding it up, it was us doing the screenplays, because we’d just been writing as fast as we can, but it took us this long to get them finished,” he explained. Jackson hopes to be filming by the end of the year, but don’t hold him to that. “I’d be pretty optimistic that we’ll be shooting before the end of the year. I would imagine October, November, we’d be shooting by. I’m not announcing it, though,” he said.
Release date: 2012?
According to Variety, Twentieth Century Fox will release the “Grindhouse” spin-off on September 3rd. You’ve got to love Variety’s dry description of the film’s plot: “‘Machete’ stars Danny Trejo as a blade-wielding Mexican ex-Federale who is double-crossed by a crooked politician.”
Release date: September 3rd, 2010
THE WALKING DEAD
As the Spinoff reported Saturday, actor Jeffrey DeMunn has joined the cast of the series. FearNet broke the story as Darabont told them, “I’ve always said Jeff DeMunn is my good luck charm, and I can’t make a film without him. We’ve just gotten him on board as one of the ensemble members, which is a great joy for me.” He also mentioned there are two female parts he needs to cast. Since I haven’t started reading the series, should I wait until the show airs or run down to the shop now?
THE SHOW MUST GO ON
I may have actually recharged this weekend, which is good as the busy season continues. Sadly, this means I won’t be going to Stumptown this weekend as originally planned, but hopefully I can rectify that next year. Also, while I’m disinclined to do obituaries, I do want to mention the passing of Carl Macek, the producer of “Robotech.” Many find the work he did to be a hatchet job, but there will always be a place in my heart for that show. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of the week to come.
