Thor 2 Loses Mads Mikkelsen

Hannibal Lecter has claimed another victim.

Only hours after news broke that David Slade has left Fox’s Daredevil reboot because of his commitment to direct NBC’s Hannibal pilot, word has surfaced that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen had to withdraw from talks to play the villain in Marvel’s Thor 2 after landing the title role in the television thriller.

Mikkelsen, who’s best known for his turn as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, met in May with Marvel about appearing in an unidentified role alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston in the Thor sequel. However, he now tells Zoomin Movies that the timing didn’t work out.

“That’s not happening, unfortunately,” he says in a video interview (below). “I had a meeting with them, but it was a little too late, and then Hannibal came in, and everything just came in the same period, so, you know, it’s not happening for me.”

Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor 2 also stars Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Zachary Levi. It opens Nov. 15, 2013.
