Thomas Jane to Star in Syfy’s ‘The Expanse’

Thomas Jane will star in The Expanse, the Syfy space opera based on the bestselling series of novels by James S.A. Corey (aka Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck).

Best known for his roles in The Punisher and Hung, Jane will play Miller, a world-weary native of the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter who works as a detective for a corporate security force operating at the law. Set 200 years in the future, The Expanse follows the case of a missing young heiress who brings Miller and the captain of the rogue ship together “in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.”

“Thomas Jane is exactly the type of high caliber actor we hoped this project would attract,” Bill McGoldrick, Syfy’s executive vice president of original content, said in a statement. “The intelligence and nuance he brings to every performance is perfect for the role of Miller.”

Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Children of Men, Iron Man) penned the pilot, and will continue as writers and executive producers, serving as showrunners alongside executive producer Naren Shankar (CSI, Farscape). The Expanse is produced by Alcon Entertainment Group.
