Last year LEGO released a 2,996-piece Marvel Super Heroes S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier playset that, while undeniably impressive, fell a bit short when came to the scale of the microfigures and jets compared to the flying fortress itself. However, a group of brick enthusiasts in Taiwan have tackled that problem head on by building their own massive Helicarrier.

How massive? While the official model measures 31 inches long by 17 inches wide, the one created by members of Formosa Creative Brick checks in at more than 55 inches by 31 inches, and required 15,000 bricks.

According to The Brothers Brick, ZiO Chao and a his friends Dada, Kimura, Kuan-Wei, Stephanie, Tiger and Will spent a month and a half on the project, using only movie stills from Marvel's The Avengers as reference.

You can see many more photos of the Helicarrier on ZiO Chao's Flickr page.
