In this feature, I examine comic book fights that were particularly notable in the wrong side winning (or at least that the fight wasn’t won the “right” way). This really isn’t a big deal, of course, as it doesn’t really matter if the “wrong” person won a fight. But it’s fun to talk about!
If you want to suggest a fight for future inclusion in this feature, drop me a line at email@example.com. Don’t suggest a fight in the comments!
It’s funny, this one is currently my second-most requested fight, but I was never all that interested in featuring it. However, after I spotlighted it in this week’s Comic Book Legends Revealed, I figured I might as well get it over with!
As always, the first page spotlights their power levels and the second page examines the fight itself.
And as always, the first question we need to ask is…
How did these people do when they fought Spider-Man?
Besides destroying the X-Men during Secret Wars, I don’t think Spider-Man has had a lot of experience fighting Storm in the regular Marvel Universe.
Oddly enough, he DID sort of fight Wonder Woman in Superman and Spider-Man (the second one, by Jim Shooter, John Buscema, Joe Sinnott, Terry Austin and Klaus Janson)…
See, even Spider-Man knows he WOULD have won the fight had it gone done.
Here’s a quick power check. Storm’s lightning bolts are badass. Watch her take down a helicarrier in Uncanny X-Men #21 (by Brian Michael Bendis and Chris Bachalo)….
Wonder Woman, though, took on a crazed Superman in Sacrifice and held her own pretty well. She pushed his heat vision BACK!
And then did well otherwise later in the fight…
That’s my thing with Wonder Woman. Since the 1970s, she’s been seen as roughly on par with Superman, so she strikes me as probably a bit too strong for Storm. But let’s see the fight (which has another annoying aspect to it)…
