Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, and judging from the latest behind-the-scenes photo teased by James Mangold, it looks like what he does is put enormous holes through walls.
“A shot from when we finished work on one of Francois Audouy’s amazing sets,” The Wolverine director wrote on Twitter. “There’s a world through that blast hole.”
The film, which is based on the 1982 Marvel miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, sends Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back to Japan, where he battles ninjas and the politics of the Tokyo criminal underworld for the heart of his ex-lover, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord. Here’s the official synopsis for the film, which opens July 26:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern-day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
The Wolverine also stars Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee.
