Greg Nicotero has signed a two-year agreement with AMC that will see him continue as an executive producer and director of "The Walking Dead" and its upcoming spinoff while developing new projects for the cable channel.

A Hollywood veteran and co-founder of special-effects studio KNB Efx Group, Nicotero designed the special-effects makeup for "The Walking Dead" and conceived and directed the companion webseries. He's also become one of the hit drama's leading directors, helming 11 episodes to date.

Nicotero is also developing the AMC drama "Galyntine" with "Halt and Catch Fire's" Jason Cahill.

Earlier this month, AMC gave a two-season order to the untitled "Walking Dead" spinoff. The six-episode first season is set to premiere in late summer.
