"The Walking Dead's" second episode of the season stayed strong despite competition from Sunday Night Football.

After a record-breaking season premiere, "The Walking Dead" dipped in the ratings for its second episode, but was no less impressive due to the competition in its timeslot: NBC's Sunday Night Football, which covered a highly anticipated matchup between the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts -- a game that brought Peyton Manning back to Indianapolis for the first time since leaving the Colts. (For those football fans, last night's game ended up as a loss for Denver.)

While Sunday Night Football dominated the ratings with a 10.0 in the coveted 18-49 demographic (according to Deadline), "The Walking Dead" scored a 6.1 to be the second highest rated show of the evening. It's not much of a surprise considering the record-breaking season premiere rating and viewership. Although the rating declined slightly for the show's second episode, the fact that it was still the second-most watched show of the night and it took one of the most anticipated football games of the season to unhorse the ratings juggernaut is incredibly impressive.

Perhaps even more impressive are the Live + 3 day numbers for the AMC drama. According to The Hollywood Reporter, with DVR and playback factored in to "The Walking Dead" season premiere, it has broken another record and unhorsed Disney's "High School Musical 2" as the most-watched non-sports program in the Live + 3 day viewership. "The Walking Dead" figuratively devoured "High School Musical 2."

"The Walking Dead" airs Sundays on AMC.
