The Walking Dead premiered seven years ago. Since then, the show has become a pop culture milestone. Now, it's kicking off its eighth season with its 100th episode, and visual effects maestro and executive producer Greg Nicotero is paying homage to the series' horror roots with several retro posters.

"I thought it was a great opportunity to celebrate that we've done 100 episodes" Nicotero said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The posters range from cinematic classics -- Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Alien -- to, appropriately, films from the zombie apocalypse genre's past, like The Omega Man and Night of the Living Dead. Nicotero created the posters along with his KNB EFX Group colleagues Michael Broom and John Wheaton.

Returning to AMC for its eighth season on Oct. 22, The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride as Carol Peleteir, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Green and Danai Gurira as Michonne.
