SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for “Rock In the Road,” tonight’s episode of AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” which as of publication has not yet aired on the west coast, as well as the Image Comics series.

Normally, we'd have a lot of shocking revelations to discuss following a premiere or midseason premiere of "The Walking Dead." However, tonight's episode, "Rock In the Road," keeps things relatively low-key, instead focusing on the Alexandrians' efforts to rally the neighboring communities of The Kingdom and Hilltop Colony against Negan. Though not a terrible episode by any means, it's fairly uneventful.

But something curious happens in the final moments. When Rick and company return to the house boat previously raided by him and Aaron to search for a missing Gabriel, they're greeted by a group of armed strangers --- but they may not be as dangerous as they seem. In the closing shot, Rick smirks at these new faces, possibly indicating that he knows them or at least knows they're not a threat.

That's not a ton to go on, but it points to the show having some unexpected tricks up its sleeve. Are these characters from Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's comics, or a brand-new community of people created just for the television series? We'll hopefully find out next week. Stay tuned for a full review and recap in just a bit, and let us know your guesses in the comments.
