The Tudors’ Jonathan Rhys Meyers Sinks His Teeth Into NBC’s Dracula

NBC has given a 10-episode order to Dracula, a period supernatural drama that’s been described as “Dangerous Liaisons meets The Tudors.” Fittingly, Deadline reports The Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has signed on to play the title role.

Produced for NBC and the U.K.’s Sky Living, Dracula follows the vampire as he arrives in 1890s London, posing as an American entrepreneur who desires to introduce modern science to Victorian society. But secretly the Count is plotting revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier — that is, until he falls hopelessly in love with a woman who appears to be the reincarnation of his dead wife.

Based on an idea by Tony Krantz, the drama is produced by Krantz’s Flame Ventures, Colin Callender’s Playground Entertainment, Universal TV and NBCU International Productions’ Carnival Films & Television, the company behind the hit Downton Abbey.
