The Symbolism is Strong in New “Captain America: Civil War” Image

While “Empire’s” newsstand cover pays homage to cover art from the Marvel Comics source material, the magazine’s subscriber exclusive art for its upcoming “Captain America: Civil War” issue opts for some effective symbolism.

The variant cover features Cap’s iconic shield, broken in half, alongside Iron Man’s mask, also broken and battle-scarred — much like the heroes’ friendship.

The “Captain America: Civil War” “Empire” cover will hit newsstands on February 25; the exclusive variant will arrive for subscribers earlier in the week.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd and more, “Captain America: Civil War” opens on May 6, 2016
