The sky above London is aflame in this new image from "Independence Day: Resurgence," director Roland Emmerich's sequel to his 1996 blockbuster.

As we saw in the Super Bowl television spot, the aliens have stepped up their game, raining down entire cities on Earth's capitals. Apparently, destroying the White House in the first film was just for warm-up.

Set 20 years after the events of "Independence Day," the sequel finds the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. However, nothing could prepare the planet for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Opening June 24, "Independence Day: Resurgence" stars Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward.
