The Simpsons TV Channel? Fox Is Considering The Possibility

One of those beautiful fantasy daydreams that many geeks share may eventually become a reality. The Simpsons is this generation’s Honeymooners. Hell, it’s several generations’ Honeymooners, given that the animated series is in its 23rd season and still going strong. Matt Groening shows no signs of quitting, but one day he will and that’s when Fox will hopefully pounce on the notion of a channel devoted entirely to The Simpsons.

News Corp. Chief Operating Officer Chase Carey said as much earlier this week at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media Communications & Entertainment Conference. The Los Angeles Times reports that Carey revealed Fox is in discussions about how more money can be made from the long-running series in addition to home video releases and TV syndication deals. It wouldn’t happen until the show is finished, of course, but the network is apparently entertaining the possibility of a digital channel.

Home entertainment centers are becoming more and more web-connected with each passing year, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see this idea eventually transform into some sort of subscription-based streaming situation. What say you, fellow Springfield geeks? Yay or nay to the idea of non-stop Simpsons in some form or another? Is this something you’d be willing to pony up a monthly or annual fee for? I sure would.
