Universal Pictures has debuted a new full-length trailer for "The Purge: Election Year" that parodies cheery get-out-the-vote commercials before giving way to the signature violence of the hit horror franchise.

Set two years after the events of “The Purge: Anarchy,” the film sees Frank Grillo return as Leo Barnes, now head of security for Sen. Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell). His job is to protect her run for president and survive the annual Purge that targets the poor and innocent. However, a betrayal forces them into the streets of Washington, D.C., on the night of the ritual, where they must stay alive until dawn, or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

Written and directed by franchise creator James DeMonaco, “The Purge: Election Year” opens July 1.
