It appears that the upcoming movie The New Mutants will have a little Magik.
A recent behind-the-scenes photo shows Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Illyana Rasputin in the film, in what appears to be the Soul Armor worn by the character in the comics. Illyana adopted the name of Magik in the 1983 Magik: Storm and Illyana mini-series by Chris Claremont and various artists.
The character later went on to appear in The New Mutants, also written by Claremont.
Illyana Rasputin was already known to be a featured character in the film, but whether she would appear as Magik was uncertain - until now. The storyline has been acknowledged as having a psychological/horror theme, so Magik's dark and demonic-based origins would be a natural fit with the film's undertones.
In comics continuity, the Soul Armor has self-generated on Magik when she wields the accompanying Soulsword. The more she uses the sword, the more additional armor appears. There has been no indication as of yet whether the Soulsword will also be part of Illyana's arsenal in the film.
The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (Atlantis) as Magik, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Cannonball, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Dani Moonstar and Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Sunspot. The film is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2020.
