Director Brad Bird's 1999 animated classic "The Iron Giant" will return to theaters this fall for a very limited engagement.

In what's dubbed "The Iron Giant: Signature Edition," the sci-fi comedy-drama will be remastered and "enhanced" with two new seasons. It will be released through Fathom Events on Sept. 30, with an encore in select markets on Oct. 4. Locations and the ticket on-sale date will be announced in August at FathomEvents.com.

Set in 1957, the Warner Bros. adaptation of Ted Hughes' novel centers on a young boy named Hogarth Hughes who discovers a giant robot that fell from space. With the help of a beatnik artist, Hogarth must stop a federal agent and the U.S. military from finding and destroying the Iron Giant.

The movie's voice cast included Eli Marienthal, Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr., John Mahoney and a then little-known Vin Diesel.
