THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY
As regular Reelers know, I love the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, so the release of the trailer, as reported at Spinoff Online, is a big deal for me. Here it is:
The Dwarves sing! Gandalf explores (presumably) Dol Guldur! Trolls! Mr. Bilbo’s trolls! That’s pretty awesome. Do I really have to wait a year, though?
Release date: December 14th, 2012
The lads at Comic Book Movie note Joss Whedon’s appearance on the Making It with Rikki Lindhome podcast. During the show, Whedon discusses the unusual way the film was realized. “You know, at the end of the day, the first thing I was saying for the first two weeks was this was more like making an internet musical than anything I’ve ever done,” he recalls. “It’s that same high end/low end thing where the schedules are crazy, the sets aren’t ready, you’re constantly changing your schedule and working it out, writing it as you go. The script took me along time and there was a point at which I was shooting it, writing it and editing all at the same time because I had to get sequences out early because they had special effects and they take a long time. I would film all night and go to Starbucks to write for the next week.”
Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
It seems Bane’s curious voice is causing some concern amongst the film-blogging community and within the walls of Warner Bros. While our executive producer Jonah Weiland was assured the voice would be further tweaked before the film is released, Heat Vision reports that the character’s dialogue will still be challenging to the ear. “[Director Christopher Nolan] wants the audience to catch up and participate rather than push everything at them. He doesn’t dumb things down,” says the site’s anonymous studio source. “You’ve got to pedal faster to keep up.” I’ll be honest, while I didn’t pick up Bane’s lines on the first pass, it was clearly audible on my second viewing. It’s sort of fitting that Bane would obstruct his own voice to force you to pay attention to him.

PASS THE NOG
It’s time for a little egg nog. Here in the Los Angeles area, there’s a local dairy that makes a fantastic nog. It’s so good that it doesn’t even require brandy to make it drinkable. I suggest you all find a local manufacturer and sample their wares. You may find egg nog enjoyable for the first time in your life. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of a “nog-over.”
