It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let's find out! So for this week, we’ll go with Mark Brooks' cover for Deadpool #25, which is oddly enough, the second comic book cover in the last month (after Jerome Opena four weeks ago) to homage the Saturday Evening Post covers of the great J. C. Leyendecker. The only difference is that unlike Opena, who just homaged Leyendecker's general style, Brooks is specifically homaging Leyendecker's New Year's cover for 1937. Leyendecker would always do covers featuring New Year's Babies for the new year. In fact, long after he ceased to be a regular cover contributor to the Post, he still did a few New Year's babies for the magazine, including the last cover he ever drew for the magazine in January 1943.
