SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for “Potential Energy,” tonight’s episode of “The Flash.”
Many of the previews for “Potential Energy,” the midseason premiere of “The Flash,” found Barry debating whether or not he should tell Patty his secret identity. As it turns out, he didn’t need to worry about it too much. At the end of the episode, Patty revealed she’s moving to Midway City in order to pursue a degree now that she’s brought her father’s killer to justice.
If you’re wondering if Barry and Patty are going to try a long distance relationship, it doesn’t seem likely. Patty almost died at the hands of the Turtle; before that, she and Barry had a major blowout over the way Barry was keeping secrets. Though she didn’t say it in as many words, it looks like things between Barry and Patty or over, at least for now.
Barry wasn’t the only one who had tough decisions to make. After agreeing to help Zoom in “Enter Zoom,” Wells goes to great lengths in order to help Zoom steal Barry’s speed force and thereby save his daughter, Jesse. It looks like the Turtles’ abilities to steal kinetic energy just might hold the key to slowing Zoom down — or Barry.
At the very end of the episode, while the Turtle is in captivity, Wells visits the Pipeline in secret and uses a device to yank something out of the Turtle’s brain cavity, thereby killing him. His motivations for doing this are unclear; while he hates Zoom, he may be too afraid to betray him, for fear of his daughter’s life.
The very last scene of the episode also featured the return of Reverse Flash. However, Reverse Flash arrives in his own true form, not as Harrison Wells. The teaser for the next episode promised to be an origin story for the season one villain, as the show bends time just like Barry’s first nemesis.
