Tom Felton's Julian Albert may not be a series regular in The Flash Season 4, but that doesn't mean he's gone forever. According to executive producer Todd Helbing, there's a possibility he could return, though that isn't in the cards just yet.

“You’ll see pretty quickly -- there’s a reason why he’s no longer with the team,” Helbing told TVLine. However, “There’s always the chance that we can see anybody on this show return. We’ve had a lot of characters come and go for various reasons, and I don’t think this will be any different.”

As a full-fledged member of Team Flash, Julian leant his science skills to the team, going so far as to build a device that suppressed Caitlin Snow’s metahuman powers. Over time, he became romantically involved with her. When she suffered a fatal injury, he made the difficult decision to remove her anti-metahuman device, which healed her but released Killer Frost. Nevertheless, he stuck around at STAR Labs and was present for the Season 3 finale, which made no indication that he would leave.

The Season 4 premiere will pick up six months after Barry's disappearance, and -- per Helbing's statement above -- it seems as though Julian will find a reason to leave in that span of time. Though Helbing gives no indication of what that reason might be, it likely has something to do with Caitlin, his on-again off-again love interest. After all, she did show up for the Season 4 sizzle reel released at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

The Flash Season 4 will make up for Julian’s absence in spades. Machete star Danny Trejo will appear on the show as a character known as Breacher, an interdimensional bounty hunter from Earth-15 who also happens to be Gypsy’s father. Joining Trejo for Season 4 are Neil Sandilands, who will play the metahuman criminal known as The Thinker; Kim Engelbrecht, who will portray another DC villain, The Mechanic; and Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff, who will appear in a recurring role as the villain Blacksmith.

Starring Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, The Flash returns Tuesday, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Keiynan Lonsdale and more.
