When "The Flash" returns from its winter hiatus, the race to prevent Iris' death begins.

In this extended trailer for “Borrowing Problems from the Future,” the mid-season premiere, Barry and Cisco work backwards to prevent a future where Savitar kills Iris. HR Wells also toasts to Barry and Iris' relationship, and the team assembles to outsmart Savitar once and for all.

While previous seasons of "The Flash" have shown Barry fighting a physical threat like the Reverse Flash and Zoom, this season challenges Barry to take on time itself. This theme is echoed in upcoming episodes -- like "Borrowing Problems from the Future," which airs January 24 -- as well as past episodes, as Barry has spent most of Season 3 dealing with the effects of Flashpoint.

BARRY FIGHTS FOR IRIS — Barry (Grant Gustin) is tormented by his vision of the future where Iris (Candice Patton) is murdered by Savitar. When a criminal named Plunder (guest star Stephen Huszar) shows up in Central City, Barry recalls the villain’s presence in his vision of the future and fears that if he catches Plunder, it will cement Iris’ fate. Confused about Barry’s hesitation to stop Plunder, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) decides to step in as Kid Flash. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) offers Julian (Tom Felton) a job. Millicent Shelton directed the episode written by Grainne Godfree & David Kob.

“The Flash” returns on January 24. Starring Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, “The Flash” airs Tuesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Keiynan Lonsdale and more.
