‘The Exorcist’ Looking to Possess TV

Horror is hot on television right now, with networks like A&E and NBC taking classic scary-cinema offerings like Psycho and Silence of the Lambs and converting them into successful series. And now Deadline reports another beloved horror film is being shopped around, The Exorcist.

Author William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist debuted in 1971 and was adapted for the big screen two years later by director William Friedkin, who created what’s considered one of the scariest films of all time. The story centers on a young girl named Regan, whose mother enlists the help of priests to help save her possessed daughter.

Current rights holder Morgan Creek has developed a new series based on the concept with Fantastic Four screenwriter Jeremy Slater. Last year, Morgan Creek tried much of the same with Sean Durkin, who wrote and directed Martha Marcy May Marlene. Slater’s version is said to be different than Durkin’s.
