"Iron Man 3" star James Badge Dale has joined "The Empty Man," Fox's film adaptation of Cullen Bunn and Vanesa Del Rey's Boom! Studios miniseries. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will begin production in South Africa this fall.

In addition to "Iron Man 3," Dale has appeared in "The Departed," "World War Z," "13 Hours" and more. He has also had recurring roles in "The Pacific" and "Rubicon."

"The Empty Man" was optioned for film this past February, thanks to the first look deal between 20th Century Fox and BOOM! Studios. Fox has brought on up and coming director David Prior adapt the series and helm the feature. Boom!'s Ross Richie and Stephen Christy are attached as producers.

While there's not a lot of info on how Prior will adapt "The Empty Man" into a screenplay, the comic series itself is a supernatural thriller set in a Midwestern town. It focuses on a supernatural being that may be responsible for a number of disappearances.
