"Cabin in the Woods" star Fran Kranz is headed to "The Dark Tower." According to The Hollywood Reporter, he will play Pimli, "the right-hand man" of Matthew McConaughey's Man in Black.

This is the latest casting announcement for the film adaptation of the popular series of Stephen King novels. Idris Elba will star as Roland Deschain, aka the Gunslinger, and Matthew McConaughey will play the villainous sorcerer the Man in Black. They’re joined by “Mad Max: Fury Road” actress Abbey Lee as Tirana and Tom Taylor, who will play Jake Chambers. King has clarified that instead of adapting his 1982 novel “The Gunslinger,” the film will instead start “in media res, in the middle of the story instead of at the beginning.”

Director Nikolaj Arcel wrote the screenplay with Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. Goldsman will produce, alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins.

The first “Dark Tower” film, part of a planned trilogy, is set to premiere Feb. 17, 2017.
